Welcome back to the McTexLaw E-mail Newsletter. This periodic news E-Mail is written by Mark McPherson, Texas Lawyer (sounds like a TV show). No ghost writing here. It’s about the three “N”s: N-teresting, N-formative, and N-tertaining. Here’s how it works. Every so often I write a newsletter about new cases or laws that apply to the real estate industry and business owners. Most newsletters also include a story about the craziest law-related things I’ve heard about. The newsletters only have brief summaries of the new articles, so that they download faster. The full articles are posted on the law firm website, but the E-mails are hotlinked to the full article. All you have to do is click on the article title you want to read. | |||
| TWO NEW WEBSITES | |||
We’ve completely updated the McTexLaw.com website, and launched
two new websites:
|
|||
www.texasH2Olaw.com/texwaternews.htm
www.texasenvironmentallaw.com/environews.htm
We’ll let you know in these newsletters when we add information to
these two new websites. We plan to
incorporate RSS technology into all three websites which will make it even more
convenient for you to keep up with new information. |

| THE STATE LEGISLATURE IS IN OUR REARVIEW MIRROR… | |||
That can only mean we are in for yet another frontal assault on common sense as we try to figure out what they did to us this time. We have set up our 2007 Legislation Tracking Center with some reports and information summarizing the new laws for you. And on that page we have one of our most popular features, the Bills Most Interesting For All the Wrong Reasons, as in, truth is stranger than fiction. Folks, we couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried! In terms of the ol’ garbage in, garbage out theory, this is the garbage in part. We have also added a couple of professional papers I have written on the new business income tax, otherwise known as the state franchise tax. If you or someone you know is paying this new tax (returns are due May 15, 2008), read this helpful information, and call us to see if there are ways to reduce it. So click on over and check out what just happened to Texas. |

| WE ARE A CORPORATE SPONSOR OF MS150 TEAM | |||
Last year we decided to sponsor a cycling team in the MS150. The MS150 raises money to help people living with multiple sclerosis-the number one disabler of adults. Donations are administered by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, one of the most respected charitable organizations around. My wife, Vera McPherson, is a riding member of the Texas Irish Cycling Team. Last year, she and about 50 other half-crazed members of the Texas Irish participated with over 3,000 cyclists to ride bicycles 150 miles over two days, from Frisco (North of Dallas) to Texas Motor Speedway, and then from the speedway down to Sundance Square in the heart of downtown Fort Worth. And we’re doing it again in 2008! If you have not donated to the National MS Society this year, please help us raise money for this worthy cause by clicking this URL and entering my wife’s name and Email: vera mcpherson along with your desired donation amount. No amount is too small. Check out the team and pictures from the 2006 event at www.texasirishcycling.com. We’ll have 2007 pictures up soon. |

| MARK McPHERSON ELECTED TO REPTL COUNCIL | |||
The State Bar of Texas includes sections organized around practice areas. Each section is managed and governed by a Council. For the past 2 legislative sessions, I Chaired the Real Estate Legislative Affairs Committee, a standing committee of the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section (REPTL). It only took me about 16 years to figure out a use for my political science undergraduate degree. In 2007, I was elected to a 4 year term on the REPTL Council, and I look forward to serving both the profession and the public in this capacity. |
